Pros

Salary. Retirement benefits, sick leave benefits, Family Medical Leave Act FMLA, annual leave benefits, job security, good hours, paid uniforms, close to my house

Cons

Ignorant and stupid managers and postmasters. Rules that make no sense. Antiquated equipment. Co-workers that don't know their job. Customers that think government employees are their personal servants.

Pros

Working as a letter carrier is a stable, well paying career. While it is difficult to get hired to the Postal Service, should you have the opportunity, it's one to seize.

Cons

Unfortunately, there is a lot lacking in the quality of and leadership abilities of management personnel. It's also an immensely physically tasking job.

Pros

The benefits are fabulous, and if you know where to look and how to get access, there are terriffic opportunities to improve skills that will be portable to another job. If you aren't proactive, though, the opportunities are opaque. There is job security, though I'm not always sure that that is a good thing. Some people would be happier, and make everyone else happier were they in a different job.

Cons

There is a toxicity to the work atmospehere in every single post office I've worked in... and I've worked in a few, in different capacities. Too many people come to work with a sense of entitlement, and then they are offered only sticks and no carrots for doing a good job.
