Great Pay for part time

Pros

As a part time RCA, I make more money here than working full time in most office positions. Get up early, but I am home by mid-afternoon.

Cons

I have to watch my phone like a hawk, I have received calls all hours of the night to come in to work the next day. On call or scheduled everyday except Sunday. To be safe on the road, one needs to purchase a Right hand drive vehicle and these are not cheap. The job is usually very physically demanding(for a small frame person anyway), must be unshaken by ice and snow, extreme heat, and other weather conditions, Learning a route is extremely frustrating, Christmas is not fun at all. You have to wait till someone retires or quits to move up the chain and get closer to becoming full time with benefits, etc. Not a very gratifying job. Very rarely is it an easy day, at least in my office.

Pros

Lots of overtime. Federal employee status. Job security after 90 day probation. 15.68 current hourly wage, time and a half after 8 hours. Penalty overtime after 10 hours.

Cons

Disorganized upper management. If you have kids this job isn't for you. only One day off a week most weeks.

Pros

Pay is pretty good and benefits are good once you become a regular.

Cons

No guarantee of when you might become regular and no benefits or paid days off until then and it could take years. Management is abusive and expects new CCA's to deliver at the same pace as a regular without taking into consideration you don't know the route and the amount of mail or packages varies. Summer is brutal in the trucks with no air. USPS does not provide water or ice.
