You'll witness history and travel the world.

Cons

You'll miss important family events and holidays. You must move your family across the country several times in your career. Always traveling on the road.

Pros

Unless you really screw up, you can't get fired. You'll also never be laid off. Earn overtime for working protection. After 20 years, you'll be eligible for a pension.

Cons

Management is a disaster, top to bottom. Promotion is not based on merit, it's more about not rocking the boat. You get paid overtime, but you'll work it, and hours are longer than any other in the government. Pension is nice but pales in comparison to state/local police pensions.
