Pros
Good pay compared to previous companies. Great bonuses. 401k match is incredible. Just great benefits overall. Work is interesting at the moment with an emphasis on developing skills in new tech. Relatively stable. Compared to other large tech companies with constant layoffs, USAA hasn't engaged in a lot of that.
Cons
Corporate culture talks about helping members of the military, but it feels kind of hollow. I'm not saying it's outright phony, but when it's sandwiched between typical business nonsense, it just sounds fake. RTO policy - I know lots of the industry is pushing for this, but middle management was incredibly combative. At the moment it's 4 days a week in office, but no one would be surprised if they decided to push for 5. Middle management has an emphasis on "coaching" engineers. Feels like being micromanaged at times. Depending on your supervisor, it can be very overbearing. I don't have a lot of respect for middle management that isn't focused on supporting the team and shielding tech workers from stress coming from the business side.
