Wages are low and below market rate. Almost every other hospital in the general area pays substantially more. Work hours are poor. Morning shift typically starts at 6 am or earlier. Night shifts may last until 8-11pm. Some shifts only last 4 hours. Work days are inconsistent and constantly change. Employees that work night shift and then morning shift are given less than 8 hours to rest. Worker turnover is very high, and the low pay and long hiring process means management is unable to replace the people who quit. Existing workers have continued to shoulder more and more work to make up for the major staffing issues this establishment has. Positions can take months before they are filled or are outright deleted. Many services offered have been permanently cut down or removed entirely in order to lower workloads. Employees are ordered to do things outside of their job description. Overall work conditions have consistently gotten worst and worst over the last 2 years. Management is incompetent and has a poor relationship with workers. They are exploitive and will take advantage of employees that show competence and a willingness to be trained in multiple roles. Employees promoted to a lead position are given unreasonable workloads and are made to work insane hours. This includes 14+ hour work days, having back to back shifts that give them less than 8 hours of rest, as well as coming in on short notice on days off. Here are a list of specific things management has done to their workers: Employee looking for more work hours was trained in a different role that had available space. Instead of getting more work hours they were instead made to work both their original and new role at the same time, with no extra compensation whatsoever. Hard working and capable employee was promoted to a managerial position that she was unqualified for. She was given an insane workload, endless responsibilities, and long hours. This employee would later step down from the role as it was too much for her to handle. Upper management would not allow her to step down to her original position and lied to her that her old job was no longer available and that she would have to reapply to work here again (hiring process takes more than a month). They did this so that she would quit herself instead of having to fire her. Weekends are run on a skeleton crew that care barely keep things running as is. Employee working as cashier on weekends spend more than half of their shift working alone and being responsible for the entire front section of the cafeteria. On some weekends there is only one cook working night shift and they can be responsible for the preparation of 130-150 meals for patients by themselves. A senior cook who has worked here for years suddenly had his hours changed and was told to just deal with it. He would leave as a result of this.
