Pros

Uber has some of the best tooling in the industry for Engineers. Its extremely engineer-centric, as an engineer you're definitely a first class citizen at Uber. Great snacks, ride credits, and free rides to/from caltrain and after 10pm are top of the line perks. Catered lunches and dinners (although only if you stay until 8:15pm). HUGE growth, it's common to see your team double every 6 months.

Cons

Ever Increasing scope/expectations and constantly fluctuating priorities are not something I'd expect at a company that size. I sat at four desks in my first month and it took me two months to get my first meeting with one of my managers. It's not uncommon to have actual "do this or leave" situations, mostly ending with people attempting the task and then being asked to leave. High stress situations like these lead to mistrust between employees and paranoia.

Thanks for sending in this review. You call out some perks - credits, snacks, and lunch/dinner - that we all love. Regarding the cons, Uber is a fast-paced, constantly changing company. While this is a pro in many ways, it can also lead to the stress you mention. Everyone is encouraged to have an open, honest conversation with their manager about priorities and how to make sure they have what's needed to be successful in their time here.

Pros

Great products; Uber car services, UberEats, etc. A company bringing convenience and filling a need for society. The ex-team are visionaries and highly skilled and proven innovators.

Cons

Middle management in the corp offices do not have proper oversight over spending, hiring, and personnel management and many put into a management role have no experience in managing staff and it propagates because their manager has no experience managing either. HR is basically nonexistent. They really only have Recruiters. Growth and change is too fast and frequent that it's difficult to get stability. There is bias and preferential treatment among some groups. Work/life balance is a huge struggle, typical of a fast growing company but amplified at Uber 10 fold. Was the worst work experience of my 25+ career.

Thanks for taking the time to write up this review, I see you've moved on to a new chapter but I appreciate your feedback. It seems like a lot of what you call out is a product of our growth; as we scale up, there are have been improvements made in the programs and processes you call out as well as lots more coming soon. One example is the rollout of the Uber Manager Experience (UME), a new 7-part training series for managers. Additionally, we wrapped up our latest Culture Survey a few weeks ago and there have been strong, actionable plans that have come from all of the input, so I think we're making progress there as well. Thanks again for the review and if you'd like to dive deeper into areas for improvement, feel free to reach out - pierce@uber.com.

Pros

Work from home. Fairly flexible schedules. Lots of great remote coworkers to connect with.

Cons

Training does not fully prepare you for your job. Managers are mostly not in touch with their teams. Often feels like you are on your own to figure everything out.

Thank you for your feedback on training and manager access for remote employees. I've sent your review to the person who works on development programming for managers.
