Great gratis and a 25% employee discount

Cons

I have a GM from hell, They have the salon with no receptionist, no cleaning crew, and they never provide any real hands on continuing education for their stylists. A class to introduce a new Redken Chromatics color is not high end hands on needed training. They want salon managers to keep hiring even though they are already staffed. Tell me how the hell is a manager suposed to run a salon without a receptionist and only have 110 budgeted hours among myself and 5- 6 stylist and 2 estheticians. That is roughly 70 hours once you take away 40 given to the manager. So you do the math each stylist would roughly get 10 -12 hours and their response is to keep hiring. WTF!!!! This company is cheap as hell. Imagine trying to give your client excellent customer service and literally you have to stop every minute to answer the phone everytime it rings. ANNOYING AS HELL to the client and myself as well. You put in a salon order things are back ordered or take 2-3 weeks to arrive. You will constantly be out of color and developer with only about 150.00 a week to order supplies to stock the salon. They are constantly having these terribly cheap promotions to get clients in however it creates a problem when the stylist level jumps because they do not want to pay anymore than the 50.00 M-W color, cut and style promotion.Just FYI if you apply for a Salon Manager job get clarification in writing. They will probably pay you about 19.00 an hour to work the hell out of you . Even though they pay you a set amount every two weeks that amount they quote you per week is exactly how much you have to do in sales behind the chair. So in essence its like your salon productivity amount is how you pay yourself. Not only will you manage the salon you will be a receptionist, a baby sitter for the stylists, a janitor, a teacher to give all their jam sessions, you will coach and mentor the team, make the schedule, keep track of payroll daily and if you don't maintain your budget you will hear from you GM and DM. Imagine felling like your running around like a chicken with you neck cut off and severly over worked. Think twice about taking this job. Oh and Ulta has an extremely high turnover for salon managers most only stay 2-6 months. That should tell you something.

Cons

I have worked for many other companies before. I am much older then the younger girls who work here so I feel I can compare this company to all the others I have worked for. Where do I start? I knew something was weird when our Store Mgr. who interviewed me never asked me if I had any cosmetic or retail experience. I told her that I wanted to work full-time but she said they could only offer 15-20 hrs. Well we did get 40hrs the first week because we, the lowly cashier/task girls had to set the store up from the ground up. We had to do all the warehouse labor which meant having to learn how to use a pallet jack to bring in pallets, breaking down pallets...etc. Everything that required heavy physical manual labor we did it. Then things just started getting worse and worse. We got one day of training and that was it. The second week I was actually given 12hrs, the weeks after that 8hrs. Some of the girls got only one day a week 4hrs or weren't scheduled at all. I felt so bad for them because I at least got 8hrs. Then they would start sending us home in the middle of our shifts with out any advanced notification. The could have told me at the beginning of my shift but no. This is what they said "We need you to leave right now because too many ppl were over scheduled." Then they would call me in the next day because they were so short-handed. Managers are rude and demeaning. They have no empathy for us employees. A little bit of kindness could do so much but I guess they were never trained on that. When I was on the register I was told by the Cashwrap mgr. to go do some stocking as we never had enough products because we never had enough employees working. There was already another girl on registers. While I was stocking the Prestige mgr came up to me and told me...":You need to get back to the register and basically what was I doing here." In not a very nice tone. When it became slow she sent me out to stock again and again the Prestige mgr told me to get back to the registers it came out like this.."YOU need to be up at cashwrap and NOT here!!" Well I was pretty angry and I said I only came out here because the Cashwrap mgr asked me to! You should be aware that you probably won't be getting any breaks and definitely not any lunches as no one except for mgr, asst mgrs and keyholders can work 8hrs per day 40hrs per week. If you work 4-6 hrs a day you will not get a break. The one time I got a lunch I was pulled off of it to help a customer in prestige. There were only two of us apparently, the Store mgr and I, and she needed to work the registers while I helped the customers in prestige. Managers have no experience and do not know how to deal with stress so they take their anger out on us, the ppl who work the hardest, get paid the least and get no hours. Nope they just treat us worse. There is one kind asst. mgr and the keyholder who is very nice. They told us during training that salon was in charge of cleaning and mopping their own salon areas and cleaning all bathrooms but that was a lie too. I don't mind cleaning but why lie? They are always telling us that our survey scores are bad well yes because the only ppl who go and do them are pretty pissed and want someone to do something about it. That just doesn't seem like an accurate way to find what customer approval ratings really are. We can't give excellent customer service in the store when there are only two of us on the floor with one as cashier and the mgr in the office. Mgrs are the only ones who can do tax exemptions, refunds, price adjustements. We also have to ask guests if they want to set up a reward card and subscribe to Allure and Glamour. This makes for very very long transactions at the register so the prestige person has to jump on a register. This means there is no one out there to help any customers. So many girls have quit but yet we haven't gained any hours, it's only gotten worse. The morale is just horrendous and you get a feeling of deep resentment towards the Mgr, asst. mgrs and keyholder. We have never had a store meeting as of yet to take care of any employee concerns. There are soo many things wrong with this company and store and I could go and on but it won't change anything. I am currently looking for another job that can at least give me 20hrs because I can't pay for gas or feed myself at this rate. Even then the horrendous way they treat their employees would never ever get me to want to stay here. I was looking forward to a long-term career here but after only one month I just don't think that I can. I can write a whole book about has happened in just my store alone and maybe I will. Maybe I can save someone else from falling into this hellish trap! I wish I had read these reviews before I took this job. I wouldn't have wasted all of my precious time and energy. I really do hate this company for the way it treats it's employees!
