Pros

The base compensation and annual bonus are competitive. They utilize Blue Cross and Blue Shield as their healthcare provider which is better than other healthcare providers. The work is interesting and challenging. The employee discount at the stores is good for the women in your life. Basically receive 5 weeks of PTO to start which is better than most companies who make you start at around 2-3 weeks. Utilize up-to-date technology.

Cons

Ulta believes that you are available at all times and that work takes precedent over your personal life. You are constantly trying to play catch-up due to the fact there is so much work and the deadlines are tight. Meetings are held all day everyday for every person in corporate which reduces the amount of time available to finish work or communicate with upper management. PTO does not rollover and is difficult to take as you will fall farther behind on work if you take extended periods. Management expects people to be available to work weekends and holidays even if personal plans were made in advance. Up-to-date technology is utilized inefficiently. 401k is extremely

Pros

Get to work all around cosmetics and salon products. Acceptive of piercings, tattoos, crazy hair and make-up. Relaxed enviroment. Discount off merch and salon.

Cons

Black and white dresscode, and not being able to wear BLACK DENIM. Having to get a pat down at the doors like a criminal, if you wanted to step out or leave. If you were friends with management, you could get away with things. Like favoritism. Changing of schedule and NOT notifying the person, then getting in trouble for it. Having to clean bathrooms and sweep/mop floor. Sorry, didn't know I was being paid minimum wage to do my job AND be a janitor.

Ok as a job but not a career.

Pros

Depending on your position, Ulta can be an ok place to make a little money and to gain experience. As a new stylist or esthetician, I think it's a decent starting point. There is a built-in clientele and an acceptable amount of training is provided. The employee discount is not outstanding but still nice especially around the holidays.

Cons

There seems to be very little opportunity for cashiers or even Prestige associates to advance. There have been several changes in management and not a single person was chosen to move up on the ladder, only outside hiring. The management does not value the employees, instead treats them as easily replaceable, especially those in lower positions like cashiers. They have recently cut many people's hours but then hired several more. To make matters worse, somehow we are still understaffed due to poor scheduling.
