Poor management

Pros

They are a large world wide company that has potential with the right management

Cons

They only hire management from outside with no room for advancement. They haven't given a raise in years. The only way to survive is being in the in crowd as it is far too clicky and it isn't how well you do your job it is how well you are like by others especially those with rank. If someone is doing extremely poor and pushing duties off on others, they get to keep their job if they are liked by the right people and in the right click. Sad for the hard workers that know their stuff and are not heard.

Umbra - SMOKE and MIRRORS

Pros

On site cafe, on site gym, non-management personal.

Cons

Senior Management is terrible, they yell at each other during meetings, they discuss inapporiate subjects with non-management staff in the meeting room ie other employees performance, likes and dislikes (management and non-management), who is going to be fired, they refer to warehouse employees as Monkeys. No such thing as JOB SECURITY Over the last three years, they have fired several long term employees - some who had worked for the company since it started. NO room for advancement unless you are in the click. Constent, high turn-over in staff. Looking for individuals, who think outside of the box, what they are really looking for a people who they can put inside the box and control. Don't speak your mind, unless you are looking to be fired.

Pros

Excellent place to be if you're good at sucking up. Or if you know how to play politics. Or if your aunt, uncle, or future father in-law is amongst the leadership team.

Cons

Design director is a good designer with terrible interpersonal and management skills. Just terrible. Sorry MC. CEO is too far down his path to truly be open to change. He's lost his spark. And the team around him knows it but just won't say it. Sorry LM. I've been at umbra for a while now, but it's simply not a fun place to be. It keeps some people. But mostly those who just don't know any better. Or designers who can't get jobs elsewhere. Umbra does a good job at looking good on paper. But like its products, it's falling apart from the inside.
