No Work Life Balance

Pros

The other workers are great! The space where the company is located is great.

Cons

Absolutely NO WORK LIFE BAL. Standing for long hours and hurded like cattle for lunch breaks. Having to test for covid every two weeks and fit that in an already schedule that gives the company 12 hours of your day (incl travel) and some ppl travel even longer I've heard over 2 hour commutes.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Our 4th quarter holiday season is a very busy time for the majority of our company. The demand has certainly increased and the workload has multiplied. Our expectation for leads to cover 6 days a week (over a 3-week period) is to be able to have the opportunity to earn overtime earnings but to also develop and establish their relationship with their team as these key weeks from November to December see our demand really skyrocket. We definitely do not wish to burden anyone and are definitely looking to avoid any burnout. We do suggest talking to a manager to discuss what possible accommodations could be made to your schedule. We also do understand the physicality of the role of the warehouse floor is constantly moving. We do encourage our team members to take a break in the middle of their shift to help alleviate this as again, our holiday season does tend to get very busy. We appreciate your sharing this concern. Part of the job description with this role is to be able to handle the physical requirements of the role, especially as a lead, who needs to monitor, support, and motivate your team in order to ensure efficiency and productivity. We encourage you to reach out to hr@uncommongoods.com if there is something more we can do to help and thank you for all that you are doing.

Pros

Great company to work for. I was a seasonal worker so they cut you right before Christmas. Hours are part time when you first start and 6 hour shift but when the holiday season ramp up, you get full time hours and can sign up for over time shifts. I worked from October 2018 to December 2018 and was a Chat representative so I only chatted with customers and did emails which is WAYYYY easier than being on the phones with them all day. I applied for them again this year but I did not pass the assessment which sucks and they are strict with that. This time around is great because the position is Work from home and its like $22/hour.

Cons

Only worked for two months Had to come in to work physically the location is way out in Sunset park, not a lot of transportation over there except for the R train

Thank you for submitting your feedback on your time with Uncommon Goods from 2018. We thank you for the contributions you provided and are grateful to hear from you again. As you noted, our Customer Service Team is currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, we are a seasonally based business model and cannot accommodate more shifts or longer duration as our demand isn’t quite the same as it is during the holiday season. However, we do hope to reach that point someday. As for perks and benefits for the seasonal team, I would love to hear your thoughts on some suggestions you may have as to what can be offered. We currently have a reward & recognition program for our top performers, attendance bonuses, and an end of season job fair to help our seasonal team find longer-term positions and opportunities. We also provide our team members a discount on all UG products. Please do email hr@uncommongoods.com if you have more suggestions on these thoughts and how we can better improve the experience.
