Pros

There really are none anymore.

Cons

Terrible work schedules or lack there of. They don't pay claims they have signed and agreed to pay the employees. Layoffs constantly. No job security. The average life expectancy is very low from the long hours and no sleep. They treat their employees like they are in a nazi war camp. The harrassment is unbelievable. You can never take a day off or they fire you. Dreadful company to work for and just gets worse every year.

Pros

Good pay, not that hard of a job to do.

Cons

Terrible management - period! It does not matter what kind of employee you are, only if you are on the "hit list" to get rid of. Every employee has a target on their back, the only difference is how big of a target you have. Managers do not have any idea how to run a railroad and instead compensate with intimidation.

Pros

This is the job for those who enjoy a challenge. In many respects, it was like playing a game of chess night after night. Those of us that kept the place running in the Land of the Black Sky had more freedom and autonomy than our counterparts that worked business hours.

Cons

My life away from work quickly evaporated after I started working at UP. Due to my odd work schedule, I seldom saw my family / friends while working there. There was little to no reward for thinking out of the box or consistently getting things accomplished. Senior management seemed to be populated by dour and grumpy old men with ulcers. I didn't want to become like them so I left.
