Pros

Great benefits , team atmosphere, Union Pacific has a very good safety culture. Paid vacation , paid holidays , retirement is railroad retirement and not social security and is about 3 time the amount of what you would draw in social security. Health insurance is about the bet there is.

Cons

Seniority!! Will take year to get better position do to Union . You will more than likely have to work 10 years or more before you can hold a position with weekends off, you will also work shift work , nights and or evenings , you will advance more than likely based of seniority instead of work ethics . You will pay union dues and do not have an option of not joining the union. It required. The union is a joke and benefit the employee non what so ever .

Pros

Always busy, even during the winter hours

Cons

Shift work for beginners is difficult, but not impossible to get used to. I am still able to go to school for further career advancement.
