Pros

RRB retirement is higher than social security, but this “pro” assumes you’ll work there long enough to retire, which is rare under the current business model.

Cons

The company is always looking to cut headcount; your job is never safe. The cuts are so drastic that the workforce is very limited and works with limited resources. This is a very challenging culture - you get advanced if you’re in the “circle,” but if you’re not, getting recognized and promoted is rare. The company says they value diversity and equity, but their actions don’t support that proposition. I would never recommend this company to any prospective employee. The benefits for new employees aren’t enough to overcome the poor pay and terrible culture.

Pros

No pros - there is no chance for advancement - the Registered Nursing program is not valued - under paid and dwindling down. This program is swiftly going under and downhill. If you are thinking of applying when they post the jobs of the people just laid off and fired. 24/7 unpaid call- poor treatment by local leadership. If you like being yelled at, hung up on and having your professional nursing judgement questioned by non nursing staff - go for it! They currently have no one managing the RN staff who is a medical professional- very risky business...

Cons

All of the above - what once was a great company - lead by great leaders is slowly edging towards utter failure. The company culture is at its lowest. More job cuts next year and into 2020.

Pros

Healthcare, but you never have time off to use it.

Cons

I felt compelled to write a review after seeing that UP is now offering a 20k hiring incentive to potential new train crew. As a former employee, who was furloughed right after training, please don't fall for this. If you look at the way it's written, believe me, you almost certainly will not collect your money. The fact they're offering this tells me that UP can't find help because people are now hip to the crap they pull of hiring too many people and then kicking them to the curb when they don't need them. Trust me, after working at UP for about 6 months, you'll be willing to pay 50k to get out of that toxic environment. This job will destroy your sanity, health and lifestyle and no amount of money is worth that to me. When you see the overwhelming amount of negative reviews from conductors that should tell you something. I have friends that still work for UP and now they watch you with drones??? Unbelievable!!!
