Pros

Great Pay if you can actually work or hold a position, Rewarding and challenging.

Cons

Seniority is everything,No stability, Dying industry due to company adoption of precision railroading. Not the place to try and start a career these days, eventually automation will get rid of mostly everyone.

Pros

Interesting job/excellent pay/benefits/retirement (when working and not furloghed)

Cons

Executive decisions made in favor of shareholders, while employees are often disregarded and seemingly viewed as unapologetically expendable/ employees held to high moral standards while management and executives get away with all sorts of unsavory acts/mass furloughs/may be forced to move in order to work bc of seniority/

Pros

*Salary is competitive *Flexible for vacation/time off *Able to work from home one day/week extended to every day through Covid

Cons

*Embrace of PSR has left employees, customers, and communities to suffer *Eliminated pension for new employees after 2018 *Difficult to advance during PSR/Unified Plan 2020 as departments consolidate. I applied for 3 jobs in the past 2 years and they were all cancelled/combined with other jobs. *Closed entire 40 person department with one-day notice. Severance packages were decent, but it would have been nice to give their employees more of a heads-up.
