Pros

Good pay, good benefits, good retirement if you make it that far.

Cons

After you are hired, the company and managers are constantly trying to find ways to either fire you, or get rid of your job. Currently, it takes about 10+ years of seniority to even be close to working full time. Furloughs are common, and can sometimes last for years. They expect you to be ready and available to work 24/7 all year, including holidays, but their attendance policy has zero leeway, and taking off more than 3 days within a 90 day period will get you fired.

The brothers around you. The people who actually make the railroad work.

0 transparency. Constant management change. Greedy upper management. Major disconnect between upper management and field workers.
