Pros

Good pay, good safety record, travel through beautiful country, incredible benefits, railroad retirement will be worth all the hard stuff, good co-workers

Cons

2 hour notice to work, completely takes over your life, you can never be away from your phone and if you miss the call to work, you could be suspended. They mess with your life, bumping you to different cities and furloughing you over and over again.

Pros

Working the extra board and only being called into work 3-4 days a week is amazing, especially for the amount we get paid (even in guarantee).

Cons

Top-down management style leaves little room for local managers to improvise on their own. Emphasis on writing up trivial rule violations (like not walking across the tracks at exactly a 90 degree angle) and a lack of regard for far more important issues that actually cause safety concerns.
