Pros

UP does not contribute to social security. They have an excellent railroad retirement that comprise of three tiers and includes paying your significant other .

Cons

While the retirement plan is great. Good luck enjoying your employment while at this company. They make it difficult to get hired, then they try everything within their power to fire you. Management uses aggressive tactics to micro- manage their employees. If you are an independent thinking you will find it challenging to be employed here. If something goes wrong someone has to be the scapegoat. They will not hesitate to fire you for extended periods of time (for years is common), and place you in a status called investigation pending. You will be considered guilty, until they make a deal with the union on rather or not to bring you back to work. It is a toxic work environment that does not build working relationships between employees and management. The culture here is a total dictatorship.
