Pros

They pay you well for the minimum education you need. It's all blood money at least for road crews though. You get to sit down a lot?

Cons

The lack of sleep will wear you down if you let. You work all holidays and management is clueless. The whole structure is archaic, they seem to be lost in time.

Pros

Great opportunity to provide a blessed life for your family. Great pay, benefits, and retirement package. How many companies pay your spouse a retirement check as well??

Cons

Work/life schedule is a bit challenging. It takes a strong and committed spouse to deal with the fluctuations of working on call 24/7.

Pros

Very stable company and a PENSION. Probably one of the best companies to work for if you intend to settle down and have a family. Lots of room to grow, as many in the railroad industry are retiring.

Cons

Raises, bonuses, and promotions are too political. Depending on the department, you may do more work than someone else, but get a much lower raise and bonus. If you are thinking about applying in the IT department, don't do it. Union Pacific sees any IT employee as a second class citizen to their other departments.
