Pros

Decent pay coming from the outside (no increases once inside) Friendly co-workers Home-Work balance tele-commute opportunities basic corporate benefits easy to out smart your management team

Cons

The core culture never changes from chairman to chairman. I was there for over 25 years and am SO glad I left to experience how real companies operate and value people. Talent, education, innovation, agility. All of these attributes are trumped by the length of time you spent in the 80's and 90's fixing customers Burroughs and Sperry machines. The middle management is comprised of ex-repair personnel who reached the apex of their Peter Principle three jobs and 20 yrs ago. 1190 Series or A Series technical training far outweighs any formal education and even MBA's when it comes to staffing true decision making management positions requiring real "management" skill sets. This limited lack of vision that is demonstrated by this contingent of uneducated and "nothing-other-than-Unisys" experienced individuals is the true reason that this firm is stuck and will continue to be stuck in this 30 year old quicksand until someone has the guts to take the short term hit to cost and remove these good ol' boys and start fresh with new blood. A new energized culture change is the only answer for this company to be productive and and be even slightly relevant in the next 5 years.

Pros

Honestly, the best reason to work at Unisys for me was the huge amount of spare time available to me each day. As a field technician, I was given my work in the morning. After completing my calls, I drove back to my house and did as I pleased.

Cons

My hourly rate was abysmal, and I was not provided any opportunities to advance. The company was in a nose dive, and senior management didn't seem to have any idea how to turn it around. To me, working for Unisys felt like being trapped in the 50's - not a great sign for a technology company.
