Serious Issues in IT Leadership

Business Outlook

Pros

There are some really smart, really good people here. The company is on a growth trajectory from a business perspective. You'll likely never be bored.

Cons

Those who care, and actually try to improve things here get leaned on very heavily by everyone, leaving no real work/life balance. The business is slow to approve new positions when a team/group is short staffed, again leaving the existing team members overworked. The company does not come close to matching the current industry median for any role in tech. Its actually extremely underwhelming. This leads to poor retention and high turnover. Diversity is sorely lacking in the IT organization here. Consisting of primarily white men. There are some teams which clearly aim to close those gaps, but they are the exception, not the rule. Women, and minorities have very little representation across the technical organization. I cannot speak for the rest of the business. The CIO is a megalomaniac who has no regard for the health or well being of his teams. His undeniable need to appear successful leaves teams short staffed, systems broken and outdated, and in the course of ~18 months led to at least 7 directors who reported to him (most of whom had at least 5 years, some with over a decade of tenure) leaving the organization.
