Not what I expected from a Non-profit

Pros

There is a sense that people really do want to "do good" for the community, and some are there for that very reason. Excellent benefits with health and vacation time. They encourage you to volunteer and give you time to do so during the work day.

Cons

There is no true direction. If you don't "play by the rules" you will not fit in. There are some very strong ego's and personalities that you have to work around. Pay is on the low side even for a nonprofit.

Pros

The ability to meet the higher-ups in a large variety of businesses and organizations is unparalleled, potentially leading to future career options, since the CE position is inherently temporary. The job also teaches a useful and flexible skill set, including public speaking and communication skills, relationship building and networking, data entry, and basic accounting. Little oversight means your manage your own workload. Pay can be negotiated and seems to vary by location, but is typically between $12 and $15. Overall a very positive and fun experience.

Cons

Public speaking skills are a must; this position is not for the shy. Depending on your region, downtime may be common, even during the hectic campaign season (though this can sometimes be a plus).
