United Way is a great institution that is going through a real growth period. Chapters in every region are learning to evolve by redefining philanthropy according to their community's needs. United Way has deep roots and constantly pursues new public and private partnerships. I was proud to work for an organization that holds such a high standard for impact and progress!

Cons

Workplace campaigns are evolving, which makes secure funding a little elusive. Keep reacting to the community and bringing smart people to the table, and the need for investment will be understood!

Community Mission is admirable and the primary reason why most employees work there. United Way has the distinct advantage of being a strategic organization that convenes community partners and approaches broad issues and to achieve measurable results.

Cons

The organization is inherently chaotic and frantically trying to do a lot of things on a lot of different issues simultaneously all the time. The inherent strength of convening a diverse spectrum of community partners also creates multitude of voices and divergent view points that must be heard and engaged to appease its immense body of stakeholders.
