Pros

United Way is the most business-like nonprofit and leads the sector thanks to an unparalleled local network. It's also a great place to work because you have family all around the world.

Cons

It's a big organization with more than 2000 highly autonomous affiliates around the world. Save for less than 1 cent on every dollar, all money is raised and spent locally. That makes it difficult to standardize programs and services. Also neighboring organizations are notorious for fighting about who gets the money.

Concern for self rather than impact

Pros

UW in Kansas City, a very nice office to work in.

Cons

Kansas City - Self concerned and self indulgent leaders. Concern for impact is disingenuous.
