Pros

It is a fortune 25 company that looks great on a resume. The company is telecommuter friendly. There are opportunities to advance-but they are usually in other departments. The salary is decent, but they usually do not tell you that you will be working 60 hours a week for that salary. There is a decent amout of time off per year. The company does have annual employee surveys and management is required to come up with a plan on how they will correct things the employees have issues with indicating that they are making an effort. I do have some great co-workers that work very hard and are great to work with.

Cons

You would think a health insurance company would have good health benefits, but that is simply not the case (for example I had to file a formal appeal for a second round of antibiotics when sick with bronchitis-the company said they were not covered). Communication between departments is horrible, and you often learn about things by reading the newspaper. The company is so concerned about shareholder and bottom line they forget the importance of employees being happy. A perfect review (literally perfect) got me less than 1% of my annual salary as a bonus, and no raise. This will be the second year in a row they are refusing to give raises for some departments, leaving me at the same salary for 2 years now. I am not alone in this. Once you are in, you will never get a decent raise again (a direct quote from HR to me).

Seeing customers get ripped off on their claims Racial discrimination Total lack of manager empathy Working when I am sick because if I don't I will get written up Nepotism Lack of flexibility in management Tools to perform job inadequate inadequate management No Raises, No bonuses

Pros

Opportunity for advancement is pretty good if you like to try different positions because it is a big company. Opportunity to work from home. There are bonus opportunites for very high performers. If you like alot of change, this is your company.

Cons

Pay for similiar jobs I've held compared to competitors is lower. Being an insurance company you would think the health insurance would be great but it simply is not. There is constant struggles with production standards and quality, leaving a person regularly frustrated. Pay increases frozen for 2009. Forced overtime for years on end in some departments. Company is too big and hurts communications and problem solving through different departments. Seems like something is always changing with this company
