Pros

In my area there are opportunities to learn new technologies. Because of the association with United Health Care they do have access to significant resources when purchasing technology. There are some very intelligent people that are leaders in their particular fields.

Cons

they are owned by United Health Care which has the some of the worst health care ever experienced. Ingenix unfortunately is stuck with UHC health care, which has huge deductibles and is not friendly to families. UHC is not a technology company, but pushes their technology standards down onto Ingenix when they really are two very different companies with vastly differing needs. Ingenix does a lot of software development, but for some reason can't seem to get the processes down. Methodologies that have been used for decades by other software development companies are either non-existent or are still being "discovered" at Ingenix.

Pros

You get a paycheck and health care benefits.

Cons

No respect from management. Instead they like you to feel unworthy of your paycheck. Bad performance reviews and no promotions unless you kiss butt. The pleasure of working weekends, nights and holidays on a regular basis with no compensation (money or paid time off). Impossible project deadlines. Between the negative management and the mostly 7-day work week due to short project cycles the stress level is extremely high.

Pros

It is a huge company with many jobs; the compensation and benefits are competitive within the insurance industry.

Cons

The company struggles with communication and respect for employees at the very regional levels. I witnessed employees humiliated during team meetings. I experienced harassment by my supervisor.
