Pros

WFH - For most. Steven Hemsley just forced a bunch of people back into the office. Also, depending on what department you're in, your director can be a good one.

Cons

Steve Hemsley. He doesn't care about employees. He's slowly chipping away at benefits that have been added to employees over the last few years. It's a health insurance company and what they offer their own employees is the worst health insurance plans I have ever seen. Also, they've moved to constant layoffs instead of annual or semi-annual. They want you gone, they just do a layoff now.

Corporate culture is awful

Pros

- Large organization with lots of technologies to learn and work with - Too many people for everything (you name it, they have it) you might need but hard to find who does what and who to contact - Good educational opportunities and HR process is solid

Cons

- Guaranteed 6 to 12 months constant reorganizations and personnel changes - Executive leadership will lay off people to make up the quarterly revenue and profit target regardless of talent - Bonuses are based on United Healthcare and Optum revenues combined and nor on business unit's revenues. Insurance business drags the technology organization - Constant leadership changes with no one taking responsibility for past mistakes or wrong decisions - Executive and Senior leadership lives in Lala-Land and is disconnected from reality. Gives rose projections based on dreams and hopes - Compensation is below market rate for technology positions. Annual adjustments are missing or not even covering the annual inflation rate
