Pros

There are reasonable benefits like 401k match, insurance, etc. The company has tried to make the environment more lax over time (i.e. moved to PTO plan and casual in the office). They have some events to treat employees every so often.

Cons

That being said, the environment is rigid and strict (speaking from corporate office experience). PTO balance is relatively low compared to most companies nowadays. There is no work from home unless you have a manager who is okay with it. More than likely not. Many managers have limited people management experience, so there’s micromanagement and office politics (i.e. being thrown under the bus for others mistakes or lack of competency). There are some good people who mean well, but there are a lot of people who aren’t fit for the roles they occupy. You will find that managers have preferences and simply put others on PIP’s to chase them out over time. There aren’t many good food options near the Downer’s Grove office and the cafeterias in the complex they’re in are terrible. Upper management is also not very transparent about the company’s direction, there’s a lot of secrecy at the various levels of management on many things. Generally, the culture doesn’t emphasize a lot of respect between coworkers, so unless you have a thick skin this isn’t a positive environment.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and experience with us. We know that creating a new culture and work environment takes time and we appreciate the insights that current and former employees share as we work to shape a place where the best want to work. Our leaders are actively making improvements to our office environments, including a complete remodel of our Downers Grove headquarters, as well as developing new leadership training opportunities for managers. These are just some examples of the culture we are building where people matter.

Pros

Great people in Dublin!! Dublin and the plants for both legacy sides are the best of the best! Legacy Nexeo in WW are also best of the best!

Cons

Way to many layers of management and people but nothing gets done until Dublin or legacy Nexeo gets involved! Product Line Management from legacy Univar are so far removed from their own line - they have no clue what is going on. How is that even possible?? Legacy Univar does not have a sense of urgency at any level outside of their plant individuals. Change Management - if I hear that one more time I’m going to loose it!!! Legacy Univar has no clue what the true definition is of change management nor how to even do it! How is it possible that legacy Univar employees make more money then there equal at legacy Nexeo, but legacy Univar does less? The punch in clocks in Dublin are a joke as well!! Do you really need to babysit employees like this? Legacy Nexeo never had to do this , but could it be that we have a great culture and trust our employees? Could it be that legacy Nexeo does not have layers upon layers upon layers of people doing the same job? Who knows but a terrible choice!! Insurance a complete joke!!! Whoever on the legacy Univar side negotiated with BCBS for 2020 benefits did a terrible job and should be fired!

Thank you for taking the time to share candid feedback on your experience. We recognize that we are still within our first year of integrating Nexeo Solutions and Univar into our new company, Univar Solutions and that much is being asked of teams in a short amount of time. By transforming ourselves into a new company, we are building a new foundation and with that comes challenges along the way that we are that are being addressed. Our leadership team takes all employee feedback very seriously and is committed to continuing to listen via surveys, focus groups, and open door communications. Thank you for your 8+ years of service.
