Pros

Close interaction between students and professors. Fairly close to Philadelphia ( but you must have a car because public transportation is unrealistic) . Close to major Pfizer and GSK facilities. Excellent Career Services Department. Athletic Student Body and great athletic facilities. Students that universally value academic performance. Open-minded and politically diverse (majority is liberal) student body and faculty

Cons

Not much happening in Collegeville. Terrible Social Scene. Obvious divide between social (Greek and Athletic) and non-social students (be prepared to see the same faces every weekend). Very high tuition that appears to be mismanaged as the school never seems to have enough money for improvements (management frequently cites financial constraints as the reason for not improving the campus and relevant programs) No School Spirit and low athletic event attendance. Obvious divide between national (only 3 national organizations) and local Greek organizations Not much cultural or socioeconomic diversity.

Pros

Ursinus is a vibrant, friendly community. They are currently in transition as the new president is in his third year and many high-level administrators are new. Over the last several years benefits have been greatly enhanced including vacation time for hourly employees and an active wellness program. 403B match is good and you can't beat the time off. Top-notch IT office and IT support. Students are engaging and bright.

Cons

Pay is typically low for hourly and lower-level salaried employees. Many of the seasoned staff are not happy with recent changes and feel that the place is not as family-oriented as it once was or that the new regime "cares" about employees. That is a matter of opinion. Ask different people and you'll get many different answers. Newer employees should have no problems. Some departments have lean staff and work is being distributed among other staff who are not being adequately compensated for taking on additional responsibility. Also, different departments have different sets of issues, both positive and negative.

Pros

Other employees are passionate, committed, and friendly. Students are often hard-working and engaged. The stated mission and values of the college are worthwhile.

Cons

The college runs on its employees going above and beyond and/or doing multiple jobs. In addition, below-market starting salaries and/or no raises/COL adjustments are common. There are a couple of exceptional members of senior leadership but also some who are not exceptional.
