Pros
Great setting! Plenty of outdoor stuff to do, and even if one isn't into biking, hiking, fishing, skiing, or trail running Cache Valley is a chill place to live. USU offers a great leave package for full time employees, tuition discounts for employees, and a great retirement plan through TIAA-CREF. Free access to recreation facilities to work out at lunch, or before or after work. Students can be fun to work with. A great place to end your career, or to learn a new set of skills for a few years, then go get paid well for it somewhere else. It is almost impossible to get fired....
Cons
...or promoted. Pay is low for staff, and stays there. Socialism at it's most obvious. Faculty get away with interpersonal behaviors that would have them thrown out or sued at a for-profit company (and I've worked at 3 others). Some departments are top heavy with soon-to-retire faculty that are offended by initiative and squash newcomers.
