Pros

Compensation is very generous Opportunity to work with wonderful people

Cons

Leadership seems to have moved away from a servant-leadership approach Inconsistent hiring practices - some follow process, others are able to hire “friends” without much vetting Incentive structure not aligned with company direction Customer support model in decline

Slave drivers!

Pros

I learned a TON while at VMware and worked with some of the smartest people I've ever met. There are opportunities to grow your career.

Cons

VMware is a multi-billion $$ company that somehow, somehow can't afford to pay their workers. I busted my butt working for this company, and advanced to management in a few years. I was promised raises and bonuses that never materialized. I ended up leaving for the same position with another firm for a 50% increase in pay. Years later I applied, was told my needed salary was well within the pay range for the role, only to be told that my minimum was "too much". It's disgusting how little they pay their most talented employees and turnover is always a problem. Don't expect to be valued working for VMware, no matter how hard you work!

Pros

Good vision Friendly and open culture compared to companies of the same size Good base pay (stock is not as generous as other tech companies) Great campus in Palo Alto Good potential for the company to grow faster than its peers over the next 5 years

Cons

Dell ownership and draining VMware of all its earnings to pay down Dell debt has impacted VMware's ability to invest in itself and grow (but that should be somewhat mitigated with the upcoming spinoff) Benefits are average to below the other tech employers like Google, FB, Apple Hiring / Recruiting support and process needs significant improvement, especially in a competitive job market
