Job was great when I first started, but after 3 years the number of technologies I was expected to be an "expert" nearly tripled. Couldn't sleep at night knowing each day I someone would expect me to be an expert on something had been weeks since I last touched.

The company's strengths, in terms of compensation, are its greatest weaknesses. Employees from acquired companies come in at high ranks and salaries, but that puts them at risk for layoff and layoffs happen at VMware every year without fail. The team members I worked with were all a couple of levels below the rest of us so the benefit-cost ratio for the company was far better for them than it was for us. Many of us felt doomed from the start.
