Pros

The company has a ton of potential as it is the market leader in the virtualization space.

Cons

The stock price has been slipping, the sales quotas are unattainable and the run rate business has been cannibalized buy offering the core product for free.

Pros

Very bright people, especially in R&D. Disruptive technology that has a clear ROI and has become a de facto stardard for Fortune 1000 companies. The company is poised to be able to extend it's domination of server virtualization to the desktop and the cloud - a unique opportunity to shape the computing landscape for years to come. The company is more of an engineering driven, meritocracy than most other companies in the technology sector.

Cons

Marketing has been weak and the company has been slow to react to Microsoft FUD. Although the company is an "independent" company of EMC that is traded on the NYSE, there is still the issue of EMC having a controlling interest (86% of the stock). The Chairman of the Board, Joe Tucci, fired the founding CEO, Diane Green, in July, and the stock has plummeted precipitously.

Pros

Lots of talented people spread across the various functional groups. The non-comp benefits are very good.

Cons

The various groups don't necessarily communicate well or coordinate efforts. One of the key reasons might be an attempt at unanimity before a cross-functional team can move forward. Such a requirement greatly slows efforts at change -- an end run or skunk works project is faster. Additionally the members of cross-functional teams are frequently already overburdened - they make personal decisions about where to invest their time, and that investment decision may not support the greater good.
