-Low pay -Bullying by unit supervisors (permanent charge RNs) is rampant and long-standing in some areas (i.e. CCU). It is the expectation and norm to "deal with it." If you end up working there, you will either have to deal with the toxic behavior, or you may end up targeted and terminated without just cause. -No value on continuing education (conferences, seminars, certification prep, etc are paid out of pocket/must go to educational events on your own time outside of work hours/no differential for certifications) -Education in in-house clinical units are lacking -Preach 'just culture,' but practices culture of blame -Shared governance is non-existent, with leadership heavily running all committees. Input by bedside RNs are basically ignored, and management & administration agendas are pushed -Poor nurse/physician relationships -Terrible vacation policies: The weeks around Christmas and New Year are permanently blocked. PTO and vacation requests are not allowed-AT ALL. Expect to work these weeks every year. Vacation requests are by seniority-Even if you request a year in advance for something (i.e. wedding), a more senior nurse can (and will) take your spot last minute. Plan to stay for a long time if you want a vacation during prime times. You also have to work an extra weekend day if you call in sick on a weekend (everyone is hired every other weekend).

Disconnect between staff and management ( dept directors). A lot of smoke and mirrors , we talk a good one but don’t walk the talk. It’s all about persona, not committed to fixing poor nursing care environment. Only listen if you’re telling them how great they are. Minute you bring important issues forward your career is done. Some managers who advocate get the same treatment. Others don’t care. Sad.
