Pros

Velir is full of nice, bright people who work hard and the company's success reflects that. The environment is laid back and there are a number of perks. Velir seems to be very competitive wen it comes to salary.

Cons

Velir has struggled with keeping up with its success. There have been a series of large structural changes regarding the organization of the company. I know that people have been fired without warning despite have very positive evaluations and there a some people who have managed to stick around despite failing at several positions. In general, I'm under the impression that the company is still trying to find itself.

Pros

The atmosphere of Velir is really excellent. Everyone's friendly and team-focused - no backstabbing or political turmoil. Minimal drama compared to a lot of agencies. The work feels good: mostly non-profits and well-meaning organizations who are trying to make the world a better place. Velir has been growing rapidly for a few years and doesn't seem like it'll slow down anytime soon, which means that new opportunities keep opening up as the company takes on new roles for its clients. Employees are encouraged to explore their individual skillsets and can transition to different jobs internally if there's a good match. The company is solid from a tech perspective - very open minded to new methodologies and to keeping pace with a fast-evolving industry. It's not difficult to convince your boss to let you try something new if you've got good ideas and a good plan for your experiment. Lastly, Velir's upper management is friendly, open, and down-to-earth - they really want Velir to be a great place to work, and they want to hear honest critiques from employees so they can make sure they're on the right track.

Cons

Senior management is mostly composed of people with more of a background in production and the work itself than in management. This can be challenging, as the company's growing at a fast clip and doesn't have a ton of business experience. They're trying to rectify this by providing training for some of the newer managers and it feels like it's a good step. Still a challenge though. Work/life balance can be a challenge, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as I've seen at other agencies. Long hours and evening/weekend emails are something of a standard in the industry. The company could be a little more willing to let go of particularly problematic clients who cause a lot of trouble. Technology-wise, the .NET stack is pretty expensive and cumbersome to work with. Some people like it but I'll put the commitment to .NET it as a con because I don't.
