Pros

Venterra was great at creating a great customer experience with residents. They held a lot of events for the on-site teams including annual family fun days, yearly award ceremonies, etc. Great team atmosphere in the office- I met some great friends who I continue to be friends with to this day.

Cons

Salary was outdated and seems like it continues to be and is not up to industry standard. After leaving, I realized how much they preached promoting from within. This is far from true-- the only promotions I ever saw were lower levels (leasing to ACM, ACM to CM) but nothing beyond that. Tenured employees who work hard for the company get overlooked by someone from outside of the organization for positions they are more than capable of doing. Senior leadership does not take accountability and when it comes down to it, they do not value their hard working tenured managers.

While we’d like to thank you for taking a moment to reflect on your time with us, and it’s great that you enjoyed our events and the company of your colleagues, I’m disappointed that it wasn’t as positive as we would have liked overall. Most of our current regional and corporate team members have been promoted into their roles, but there are still times when we rely on external talent to introduce a unique perspective or set of skills to the organization. And, although regional benchmarking reports continue to guide the way in terms of adjusting pay offerings, it’s critical that our team members are comfortable having a conversation on this topic at any time to ensure compensation is well-aligned with their specific skills and qualifications. Maintaining a politic-free environment where open, candid discussions like these can happen is a must for a positive experience, so I’d love a chance to better understand your specific observations. With this in mind, I’d like to invite you to contact me to discuss by phone (281-822-9125) or email (bgeorge@venterraliving.com) when time allows. Thank you again for the review and in advance for any additional information you’re able to provide.

Thank you for reflecting on your time at Venterra and sharing it here. We’re glad that you had a positive experience overall and appreciate the feedback in terms of areas for improvement. We’re always looking for ways we can do better, and perks, benefits, and compensation play a huge role in the experience of our team members. While we have made some recent changes in these areas, we’re continuing to seek out new ways to go above and beyond for our colleagues, so if you do have any specific suggestions, please be sure to reach out. Thank you again for taking the time to provide the review!

Pros

Pay was pretty good. Loved my coworkers in the office. Generous budget for miscellaneous to make the work environment better Get to have fun with coworkers Streamlined reports. Most other community managers are genuinely nice people.

Cons

PTO policy is outdated. 80 hours for the whole year. Not up front, but accrued. You never have more than a couple of days to use at a time. Assigned mentors do not have any property management experience outside of Venterra. Typical corporate politics. Eye roll. Employees are infantilized. I was told something for leaving my Assistant Manager alone in the office for a day. Really? As a Community Manager, you are expected to clean… a lot. Which is very strange. Colleagues that want to be overly involved in your personal life. Veeeerrrryy traditional company, if you catch my drift, so don’t expect a company wide “Pride” celebration.

The review is much appreciated, but I’m sorry to hear your time with us wasn’t up to the Venterra standard. Great compensation, colleagues, policies, and resources are all important, but they are certainly only part of the total work experience. While we haven’t had any restrictions in terms of spacing out vacation time and vacation accruals increase based on tenure, we were excited to have made multiple changes to enhance our PTO policies recently and will be sure to take your feedback into account as we look at this area in the future. It’s also our goal to be a great place to work for all. We recognize that requires an ongoing effort and the passion of team members at all levels of the organization. By partnering with an external company to explore our standing in terms of DE&I and identify areas for improvement, we’ve been able to make progress in this area, but we do have a long way to go. You can stay up to date with these efforts, see current Venterra demographics, and find out how our team members celebrate a range of holidays and traditions from our Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion page on Venterra.com. A great employee experience also means we’re providing the resources needed to thrive at Venterra and beyond starting from day one. Striking the balance between guiding the way and encouraging growth through independent learning can sometimes be tricky, but effective leadership training is certainly key. If you do have any specific suggestions in terms of how we could improve in this area, please don’t hesitate to reach out for a discussion by phone (281-822-9125) or email (bgeorge@venterraliving.com). Thank you again for sharing!
