Pros

You receive a 50% discount on ALL merchandise, including sale items, and occasionally 60% off as well. You are encouraged to please the guest and make them as happy as possible. A yes always attitude which helps our sales. We throw MANY parties and even host as well which is super fun! This job is PERFECT for newly or veteran associates to learn about a company that ACTUALLY walks the walk and not just talk to the talk of "TRUE EXCEPTIONAL CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE."

Cons

THIS MAY JUST BE FOR MY PARTICULAR MANAGER: Scheduling is terrible. I work an average 15/20 hour week but don't let this number fool you. I am sent home CONSTANTLY because of "slow business" and "saving payroll hours". At the same time my manager expected me to be oh so AVAILABLE with scheduling and if I did decide to get another job she would want THEM to work around HER schedule even though she calls you and tells you that you don't need to come in and that you can go home early. I need to work because I need to survive. You cant live on the 10-15 hours a week that they will give you. Now this again may just be my store. But our guest experience is always reviewed high but I feel my manager lacks CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE because she talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. She definitely expects SUPERIOR employees but she herself does not meet the SUPERIOR standard. She cares more about SALES GOALS reaching and ADD ONS and UPT/ADS but I was told in my interview and training that we focus more on HER EXPERIENCE in the store and the CONNECTION we make with her than selling her something. My manager will get upset if we aren't selling to the customer. Reality is and has always been that you CANT MAKE someone purchase. If they have the money and want it they will get it. We as a company spend more time connecting with our guest and making her feel like our best friend. I love that idea but my manager seems to forget this on an hourly basis. I feel like, from hearing her on a conference call, that she wants to be the TOP store on every call and get the most PRAISE and RECOGNITION. She hates for another store to be recognized if she isn't. This may come from her other carer choices in the past but that type of mindset doesn't fit well with what she is currently doing. I love my store but I do not love the store manager. The assistants are wonderful. They are perfect and I would have expected one of them to be the store manager. I am not sure how much longer I will be working for this current store as long as the store manager is in charge. Many of our employees have discussed together, even management, how she can be.

Pros

Vera has a wonderful culture, great group of people to work with, and is just a fun company.

Cons

Since IPO there has been an increased focus on profit margin and they have begun to cut. While still growing and profitable, we have not been meeting Wallstreet's expectations and it is frustrating to see cuts as though we were somehow not doing well financially.
