Pros

- one work from home day per week - coworkers generally friendly

Cons

- outdated systems and technology - inefficient processes - - layoffs happen quarterly - responsibilities outweigh pay - management expects you to stay late - if you don't they give you more clients - workload distributed poorly - feels like high school - environment is immature - poor management and leadership skills - numerous mergers/acquisition with no consolidation of processes - there have been many instances where I can't get an answer for a client and it goes full circle and a month goes by before I could can take action.

Pros

Good benefits and decent salary for the area. Opportunities to train on multiple programs.

Cons

Management and supervisors were very unprofessional. The micromanagement was out of control and therefore as an employee it was difficult to grow within the company. After leaving work we were not allowed to enjoy our home life balance due to the mounting pressures from supervisors via phone and emails. You were watched closely by certain supervisors that harassed you through out the day. The salary was not worth the constant turmoil. The company only encourages growth through personal ties and not by merit. Valassis was by far the most unprofessional company I worked for to date. I would not recommend this company any job seekers.

Pros

I liked my co-workers what is left of them.

Cons

Where do I start, this is the worst most corrupt place I have ever worked! Management is horrible, out of touch and verbally abusive on many levels. They don’t have job security since every quarter they fire people, the rest get double or triple the workload. There are no raises, no bonuses, and no perks at all of any kind, not even decent coffee or utensils. They keep losing people left in right since they keep dumping more and more work on individuals and expecting them to work like dogs while reducing their headcount to bare bones. One supervisor in Phoenix is the worst I have ever come across; she is loose around in the office, leaves early or doesn’t come in at all. She “works” from home all the time, and verbally abuses her staff on a daily basis. She expects people to put in overtime yet she won’t put in even a regular days work herself. I am in awe of how this company can justify keeping a person like this, yet fire a valued person at the same time. Valassis or rather Harland and Clark, cut all sick days so now you have to use vacation time, this makes a total of 5 days fewer a year. Fewer holidays off, the flexibility in the workplace they keep spouting about on this sight is all but gone. They expect zero errors and unobtainable goals, and if you don’t make them you are reprimanded and/or written up. I have seen employees crying, quitting, or worse after their one on ones. One employee had a nervous breakdown and quit right there after being abused by her manager for the 100th time. Plus the performance reviews are a joke, even if you were a fantastic worker that year your performance will be just ok if you’re lucky. That means the company can “show” you that don’t deserve a raise or bonus. Corporate also legally stole several thousand dollars from an employee “legally”. The employee was in need of the money that they received due to a great illness in the family and the employee was forced to sign away several thousand dollars to Valassis or have a long legal battle that they could not afford to have. Valassis found a loophole and was actually able to steal from a handicap person. This is a place full of nasty greedy CEOs and managers. DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY YOU WILL BE ABUSED, STOLEN FROM, AND LIED TO. There is so much more going on. This company has gone from ADVO, to Valassis, to Harland Clarke Holdings Corp within the decade I had been there. From a good company to a company with nothing to offer its people, not even decent coffee. These mergers have slowly destroyed this company to no return. Greedy, life sucking CEOs, and lack of proper care to their employees have shattered everything that was once good within Valassis. RUN AWAY FAST AND DON’T LOOK BACK!
