Pros

Verisk is a conglomerate of multiple businesses. Based on the reviews, some of the businesses are good places to work.

Cons

Semi-recent layoffs and offshoring jobs to India. Developers here in Lehi are expected to "volunteer" for split shifts from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and then from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. We take turns doing this 2 weeks at a time to support developers in India. Supporting the teams in India saves Verisk money at the expense of our time with our families and sleep. Annual raises are typically around 3%. To be up front I've always received more. Verisk justifies tiny raises by saying they want people to move up to get raises like from Developer I to Developer II. This doesn't work because in a department of 22 developers we're told only 2 or 3 people can move to the next title each year. Do the math and you'll see everyone falls behind in a few years. We used to have good benefits. Now we pay more for worse coverage. Rising benefits cost is normal but the way Verisk handled it was just tacky. We struggle to acquire basic development resources. Imagine waiting 13+ hours for your CI/CD builds to run because there aren't enough build machines. Imagine waiting weeks to get a software license you need to do your job. These antics don't save Verisk money but Verisk seems to think they do. Receiving a full target STI bonus seems like a pipe dream lately. I get glowing reviews from my manager and I've been awarded the higher rating group and supposedly the company is doing well. But I haven't received a full STI bonus in years. This problem with STI bonus payouts frustrates a lot of high performers. The Xactimate code base is tough. Developers spend days searching through code that maybe 1 or 2 people in the company still understand. Dev leadership is finally trying to improve things but it will take years and focus on the right things. If you like working with old tech and watching your career skills fall behind then you might be happy here. I used to refer people to work at Xactware. It was a nice place to work. The company is called Property Estimating Solutions now and it's mediocre at best. I'm not willing to refer people anymore and I'm sad it turned bad.
