Pros

good work environment, flexible work schedule to balance your work and professional life. excellent coworkers, broad knowledge base across many areas of expertise, excellent opportunity to keep your technical skills current by working on a broad range of projects. good educational reimbursement. good bonus structure at the end of the year.

Cons

management had announced a while ago that layoffs would continue till the company becomes profitable again, so every quarter there is a day when layoffs happen and you are reminded that no matter how hard you work, your situation is very tenuous. (as I found out last quarter when I got "the call")

Pros

Good benefits. Decent salary. Great people.

Cons

Non stop staff reductions have created extremely low morale. Everyone knows they happen each quarter and production comes to a halt prior to and immediately afterward. Verizon loves remote management which does not work. How can you effectively manage people when travel cuts do not allow you to visit them more than once every few years! Constant reorganizations waste of money and shows how truly lost management is. Management focused on empire building. Conference call culture is a large waste of time because everyone is multi tasking. Two hour conference calls with about 15 minutes of true work! It's a truly big company that moves at the pace of a snail in a business that moves much more quickly. No room for advancement. No guidance from management. Huge brain drain due to staff reductions of entire departments that support products. Wireless is king at Verizon and all others are expendable and the blink of an eye.
