Pros

ALot of knowledge out there to gain - teh Verizon Busienss side of the house is full of very hard working individuals who know how to get the job done as long as it does not invovle Verizon CORE.

Cons

No room to advance.....good old boys club. Raises are subjective, ops if you are not one of the "pets" regardless of your glowing review, they have the control to give very little on your merit increase. Definately based on popularity. Working with Verizon CORE and union employess is very challenging

Pros

Massive company so you can get in and move around as long as you are careful.

Cons

Understaffing in nearly every area leads to people being overworked and unfairly blamed when things go wrong. There is also a near complete failure to distribute product information to the wider business and a few individuals that seem to be keen to lie to further their positions. This is not a place for the faint-hearted. Bring your thickest skin along to do best here and learn how to fill in the grievance forms early on.

Pros

Great place to get a start. Its a stable place to work ( i.e. if you do your job and are at all competent you'll be able to keep it for years). Pretty good support for training and education, so long as it pertains to your current job. They encourage telecommuting which allows for a good work / life balance. You can pretty much live anywhere you want.

Cons

Senior management has no real clue what they're doing. There are frequent reorganizations ( one each year i've been there). Most jobs require working with different groups within the company and the groups are very territorial. Getting things done as a developer / engineer is worse than pulling teeth. Each group is under staffed so the implied expectation is to work late, work on weekends, to get the job done. Telecommuting is encouraged , yet its a double edged sword in that if you work from home, you're available 24/7 to work. There's virtually 0 chance for career advancement.
