Pros

The actual work is challenging and sometimes leading edge , but mostly bleeding edge.

Cons

This company acts like a classical Narcissist. Almost everyone in managment seems to thrive by exhibiting conceited, argumentative, or self centered traits. This is a long-term pattern of abnormal thinking, feeling, and behavior that is played out from the interviews into every project that you will work on. These company traits are peculiar or disturbing when management encourages everyone to act this way. Now some thrive in this culture but they become like sharks and the workers become bate. There are meetings that are devoted to finding people in the company who can or will be laid off. This happens regularly , I know I have sat through them. Then there are the stalwarts who have been at the company for many years and they are untouchable . Overall if you can swim with the grate white then maybe you could survive in this company.

Pros

ViaSat is a decent place to work. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, open door policy, and great benefits. It has a "Do The Right Thing" motto, and therefore puts a lot of trust in the employees. This allows for flexible work schedules, and some working from home which is a great benefit.

Cons

ViaSat is understaffed, and always will be. This puts a lot of pressure on the employees, being overworked, and underpaid for the hours that they put in. There is no overtime pay for salary employees, and with most salary employees working 50-60 hours/week it can way heavily on you.

Pros

this was a really fun, rewarding, challenging place to work... was.

Cons

I believe that the leadership is now openly hostile to the employees in general. I believe this because of the recent benefits change. On 2/27 they announced that new benefits plans would be available, and that all employees needed to elect through open enrollment. Open enrollment opened on 3/11 and closed on 3/20. A total of four emails were sent out indicating that this change was occurring. Of the 4, only one had any mention of mandatory elections above the fold (1st page of the email). None had any mention of it in bold, large text, or otherwise noticeable. Basically the only notes about needing to re-enroll were in the fine-print. Pretty sure 5-10% of the employees just lost their insurance today.

Thank you for the review. We are truly committed to listening to employee feedback and making the changes we need to make to ensure our employees have opportunities to learn and grow with Viasat. With the increasing cost of medical care and the goal of offering our employees and their families affordable and quality care, we added a third plan this year to bring employees a less expensive option. Because of this, employees were asked to re-enroll so they could consider all the options. Additionally, to make sure all employees are aware of the changes, we’ve followed up individually with employees who haven’t taken action in their accounts.
