Pros

Great culture, treats employees well. More than flexible in every respect. Great benefits. Bright, inspiring and approachable CEO.

Cons

A lot of inefficiencies, duplication of effort. Lack of serious repeatable process. Operates as CMMI level 1. Systems engineering is non-existent. Employee accountability is lacking. Have seen people doing things that would result in instant termination elsewhere.

Thanks for the review! We’re thrilled to hear how you feel about our CEO Mark and couldn’t agree more. As Viasat has grown, there’s been a need to dial up and streamline our processes and it is an opportunity that has been recognized by our senior leaders. We understand your concerns and want to ensure you that our very best teammates are working on solutions! Over the past several years, many organizations within Viasat have been assessed at CMMI level 3. We take employee feedback very seriously and encourage you to reach out to your P&C Business Partner or supervisor about the concerns you may have. Great ideas can come from anyone and we want to hear yours!

Pros

Work is challenging, rewarding, and interesting. You can work with any technology that you want. You can have your career pivot in any direction that you want it to. The benefits are fantastic. Nice office. Can work remote basically whenever. Smart coworkers. Great people to meet if you're young, but great place to live if older. Pay is good. I've worked in a few places, Viasat cares about me more than any other.

Cons

Upper management a mix between an old boys club, competent managers, and idiots. On the consumer side, the product (Satellite Internet) is pretty bad (though best in it's class). Growing fast, but still slow to hire. Cost controls in all of the wrong places. Working with some back office teams is a total disaster. Not everyone likes change. Accountability for poor business choices a bit of a third rail. Nepotism in some areas. HR doesn't tell you your title so you can't use it to your benefit.

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We're happy to hear that you're charting a unique career path by embracing new technologies and exploring new career directions! As we grow quickly, we're striving to strike the right balance between process optimization and people development, which can be tough! We're rolling out manager education programs this year in an effort to consistently improve our leadership quality across the organization. Additionally, our new Workday implementation allows increased job title and team structure visibility across the company. Nevertheless, we encourage you to reach out to your People and Culture Business Partner or the Learning team to give us suggestions or ideas on ways to grow sustainability and in an impactful manner!
