      Great starting out but few advancement opportunities

      Pros

      Collaborative environment, safe campus, tuition assistance for full-time employees, centrally located in the city, economic engine for the region, good starting salaries.

      Cons

      Advancement opportunities are few, financial rewards go mostly to the administration, faculty and staff have not been issued raises in more than 6 years.

      Collaboration with hospitals, some cool faculty, career development courses and teacher preparation courses, middle of downtown

      Teachers don't care about teaching (because it's a research institution), terrible first year graduate courses

      Pros

      There are great benefits that come along with working for a state university. The leadership team was great in our department. I had a good team of people in my office.

      Cons

      There are some people who are not willing to do more than what is spelled out in their employee work plan. That can be very frustrating at times. It seems that good people leave to pursue better paying jobs in the private sector and the ones that don't want to do more than they have to do stay forever.
