Pros

I have found VCU a great place for faculty professional development and also teaching load. In the last ten years, VCU has made great progress in terms of research, and has recently (as of Jan 2011) been designated as a research one university. Teaching load is still heavy--as an urban research university.

Cons

Teaching load can be quite heavy and sometime, student enrolled in the courses are very high. This does not give as much time for individual attention to students as much as the administration says it is doing.

Pros

Fun environment with plenty of opportunity to grow and in the local vicinity of the campus so commute is easy.

Cons

Clientele can be bothersome however they are easy to deal with if spoken to properly and the tasks there can be done.
