Pros

*Flexible hours, easy to take a day or two off whenever without much hassle *Compensation is good for the area *You are given tools needed to succeed *Everyone is pretty friendly and willing to help

Cons

*Research process can be pretty ad-hoc and unprofessional at times *Funding is key driver for everything and detracts from overall goals of research institutions *Little opportunity for growth over time, job gets harder as pay stays stagnant

Good coworkers, cultural hierarchy

Pros

Varied work, interesting coworkers, great students

Cons

Wage employees are regularly minimized and mistreated financially. Tech depends on a base of wage employees who often work 30 hours/week. The cap exists so they receive almost full time work from us without having to pay benefits, an appropriate salary, give us access to wifi, or even a parking payment system. The result is that you feel very less-than and have to find other work to make up for the lost income and benefits.
