Pros

World class university Beautiful college town in the mountains of southwest VA Competitive benefit package Numerous opportunities for professional development via skills workshops and campus courses Close-knit community and friendly work environment (everyone loves the Hokies!) Great college sports scene Low cost of living in the region Overall an incredible place to work!

Cons

Blacksburg is not a large town and consequently lacks many big city amenities. The nearby town of Christiansburg (15 min drive) and city of Roanoke (40 min drive) however can usually provide whatever service/attraction that Blacksburg lacks. Staff salaries are underwhelming but this is slightly offset by the generous benefit package and the region's low cost of living. Educational qualifications are important. If you do not have a masters you will eventually hit a ceiling regardless of how deserving you may be for a promotion and/or additional responsibilities.
