Pros

Graduate student salaries are competitive and in line with the cost of living in the area. Leadership in my department is extremely supportive of graduate students. The university overall is supportive of graduate education as well.

Cons

Funding for research and travel can be a challenge, although this is likely the result of the national attitude toward research funding, not a product of the university itself.

Pros

You are exposed to alot of different technology, that you get the chance to be hands on with and test out as you feel necessary

Cons

There isn't much room for advancement, or promotion in the university. What you with as your position and salary will not change much.

Pros

Good compensation, nice small town feel, I always seem to be friends with many of my coworkers. VT has interesting speakers on a regular basis and the opportunity to easily go back to school.

Cons

State bureaucracy limits career advancement. Difficult to get top talent to rural SW VA, so often stuck reporting to the B team.
