Pros

Get freedom to pick on lots of interesting projects related to your major. Different locations and laboratories dedicated to researching different topics. Can do hands-on work or other research work if preferred.

Cons

Very few challenges associated with working part-time as a researcher at Virginia Tech. There is an hourly limit per week for some jobs worked, and this can be a hassle in weeks where there is a time crunch to meet a deadline.

Pros

All the staff here are very nice and helpful. Professors are generally nice. In terms of classes, you don't have too much choice. The good thing is in northern Virginia you don't need to drive several hours to go to a nearby big city for shopping or entertainment.

Cons

As a PhD student, the work life balance is zero. You have to work very hard, and don't have time to social. Life sometimes is boring.
