Pros

Good compensation, nice small town feel, I always seem to be friends with many of my coworkers. VT has interesting speakers on a regular basis and the opportunity to easily go back to school.

Cons

State bureaucracy limits career advancement. Difficult to get top talent to rural SW VA, so often stuck reporting to the B team.

Pros

Excellent university, Great benefits, Superb facilities and the Location could not be any better.

Cons

Individual professor may or may not be as good as you hope. Make proper inquiry to see if the professor is good or bad before joining anyone.

Pros

As a graduate student assistant, I take labs for undergraduate classes. It is a fresh revision of those basics as every now and again, students come up with new and interesting questions/problems. To be able to take on this challenge, you really need to have a sound understanding of the course yourself. This is a nice way to keep in touch with your basics.

Cons

Sometimes the work load adds extra burden, especially as a graduate student.
