Pros

All the staff here are very nice and helpful. Professors are generally nice. In terms of classes, you don't have too much choice. The good thing is in northern Virginia you don't need to drive several hours to go to a nearby big city for shopping or entertainment.

Cons

As a PhD student, the work life balance is zero. You have to work very hard, and don't have time to social. Life sometimes is boring.

Pros

Great opportunity to work with top faculty as a full time MS level research associate. The pay was great for southwest VA.

Cons

Some bureaucracy as with all large institutions. Blacksburg is small and tough for a young professional.
